TrayDay v6.0: by MJM Software
for Windows 95 / NT 4
(see end of this readme.txt for version history)
DESCRIPTION:
TrayDay - date, time and counter utility for the Windows 95 or NT 4
tray.
TrayDay places an icon showing the date (day of the month) in the
system tray (the part of the taskbar which includes the clock). The
icon resembles a page of a "tear-off" calendar.
You can therefore see the date at a glance - often quicker and easier
than resting your mouse over the clock, searching for an "Insert Date"
menu, or having to reach for your diary. Move the mouse over the icon
and the day of the week will appear.
Left-click the icon and a pop-up menu appears showing the date in
various formats - including up to ten user defined formats. Click one
and it will automatically be inserted into your application (or copied
to the clipboard, depending on the option checked in the right-click
menu). You can select your favorite date format to be available by
double-clicking the TrayDay icon.
The user formats can include the date, time, and counters -
particularly useful for date-stamping messages or files.
The right-click menu shows the various items used to configure TrayDay,
and Exit. Selecting Options... brings up a dialog box which lets you
choose different tray icons, define user formats, etc.
You can also select from the right-click menu the action to be carried
out when a date is selected on the left-click menu - the current action
is marked with a tick. The three possibilities are: Copy - the date
will be copied to the clipboard. Insert - the text will be inserted at
the insertion point of your active or foreground window by simulating
keyboard input. And Paste - the text will be copied to the clipboard
AND automatically pasted in at the insertion point. [Note that if
Insert is selected but the date includes character(s) which cannot be
typed by a single combination of keystrokes, the Paste action will
occur.]
By placing a shortcut to TrayDay.exe in your startup folder, you can
have the date always available.
See Help (run TrayDay, right-click the icon in the tray and select
"Help...") for detailed instructions. Also see context-sensitive help
in the Options dialog box - click [?] on the title bar, then the area
of the box you require help for.
*** This program requires Windows 95 or Windows NT4. ***
*** When a date is being inserted (typed) into an application, you
can stop it by clicking the TrayDay icon. ***
LIMITATIONS:
Inserting or pasting text to an MS-DOS window is not supported.
Inserting or pasting text to a combo-box (edit control with a down
arrow at the right to open a list) may not produce the required result.
See Help for more information.
TO INSTALL:
Copy TrayDay.exe and this readme.txt to a new folder; for convenience
you could call this folder "TrayDay". To run, double-click TrayDay.exe.
To set TrayDay to run at startup create a shortcut for it in your
StartUp folder. (Hint: Using the Explorer, right click and drag
TrayDay.exe; drop into the StartUp folder; choose "Create Shortcut
Here" from the popup menu.)
TO UNINSTALL:
TrayDay copies no other files, so to uninstall, simply remove the
folder and files mentioned above.
TO REGISTER:
TrayDay is a shareware program. When first run the welcome box
displays: "Evaluation Version"; after 28 days it automatically becomes
the "Unregistered Version". The only change to the program's function
at that point is that if you run your computer continually, the welcome
box which appears at startup will also appear once a day. If you wish
to continue using TrayText after 28 days, you should register. You can
convert to the Registered Version at any time by entering the
registration number you will be given by mail or e-mail.
Benefits of registering are:
╖ The 'Shift icon' functions are enabled.
╖ The welcome box which appears at startup (and daily after 28 days)
can be turned off.
╖ A clear conscience!
Registration covers this and any future version of TrayDay.
You can register online using a credit card; the cost is 10 GB pounds -
approximately 15 US dollars. For details go to the following
World-Wide-Web page:

VERSION HISTORY:
5.0 Added choice of date icons
5.0a Corrected a problem some users (with 256 color display or less)
experienced with the color of the help box
5.0b Enhanced non-English language support
5.1 Changed the way insert date works: from copying to and pasting
from the clipboard, to simulating keyboard input (applies only
to single byte character set languages). This means that the
user's clipboard data is preserved, and insert date now
functions in dialog boxes and wherever keyboard input might be
expected.
Added choice of delay for "Shift Icon After Startup"; some
users had reported that 1 minute was not long enough.
Enhanced right-click menu and Options dialog box.
Added counter, time, new line and tab options to user format.
Added combo box to give recently used user formats.
Altered Options Help box to reflect these changes.
6.0 Menu structure changed to give new left-click menu and make
insertion of the date easier.
Regular shifting of the TrayDay icon to the clock added, as
requested by many users.
New welcome box - removable on registration.
Gray icons changed to match TrayText; transparent icons changed
to give numbers only, per user feedback.
Insertion ("typing") of date speeded up.
Paste option added as an alternative to inserting (inserts by
copying to clipboard then automatically pasting - quicker!)
